Two years ago today I launched my 15/20 minute city survey in Warsaw.
On that first day 2 years ago I had just a handful of respondents (pictured in the above photo). It was very excited to see the data develop over the coming months.
In addition to two main surveys for my fieldwork (one on urban mobility choice and the other in the 15-minute city) I also conducted many local interviews with residents, municipal employees and a range of individuals I refer to as ‘city shapers’, also with a great interest to get perspectives of elderly city residents.

A retired local resident from one workshop left the following feedback: “The workshop was important to me. I believe it addressed an issue important to most people living in a big city. My attention was drawn to the energy and engagement of the presenter. I would recommend the workshop to everybody.” (“Warsztaty były dla mnie ważne . Uważam, że dotyczyły zagadnienia ważnego dla większości ludzi żyjących w dużym mieście. Moją uwagę zwróciła energia prowadzącej i zaangażowanie. Polecam każdemu.”)

Looking at the 15-minute city concept as manifest at the local (neighborhood and district) level in Warszawa was a very interesting journey.
These days I’m deep in paper-writing mode to share the process and results from my fieldwork consisting of an urban lab approach in Warsaw with 19 workshops and several walking labs coordinated with local residents & experts.

Gaining insights on best practices and barriers of walkability from residents themselves was a core goal of the urban lab as was integrating awareness raising on sustainable mobility.
I look forward to further developing this urban lab approach and also beginning to integrate issues and practice of urban and community-based agriculture.

I have a vision for a community + university-engaged urban lab approach on these themes that I look forward to finding a ‘home’ for in the future and to further my research in other locations around the globe
