Here at Pedestrian Space we are honored to be partnering with the University of Vermont Press (UVM Press)for a contributed volume on ‚Walkability and Planetary Health’. We greatly value the UVM open-access publishing model and appreciate the opportunity for affiliation and working with UVM Press.

Pedestrian Space founder Annika Lundkvist, has been contracted and will serve as editor and ‚curator’ of submissions for this special volume.

“UVM Press looks forward to working with Pedestrian Space to bring greater visibility and legitimacy to walkability, a timely and important topic relevant to the wellbeing of human societies and urban environments around the world.”

Walkability and Planetary Health: Resilience, Engagement, Education and Nature, will be a contributed volume. Three thematic pillars will be prioritized:

●  Community Resilience

The thematic pillar of Community Resilience welcomes submissions that focus on how walkable communities promote diverse dimensions of resilience and health to include (but not limited to): neighborhood resilience, social resilience, environmental and ecological resilience, urban resilience and how this connects to planetary health.

●  Community Engagement and Education

How do we weave critical issues of walkability into education, from primary school to university curricula to life-long learning opportunities? This thematic pillar welcomes submissions that focus on and explore education on issues of sustainable mobility, with a focus on walkability (to include public transit), from youth to lifelong learning. We encourage content that presents insight on how issues of walkability can be addressed in school and university curricula as well as community education for diverse age groups and populations.

●  Urban Nature to Support Pedestrian Mobility

In an era of increasing and critical urban heat issues, urban nature and nature-based solutions are vital to support people moving by foot, cycle and public transit. The thematic pillar of Urban Nature to Support Pedestrian Mobility welcomes submissions that focus on how diverse aspects of nature can serve to promote and facilitate pedestrian mobility. We encourage submissions that focus as well on case studies related to best practices as well as barriers in diverse geographic, cultural and climatic contexts related to these themes as well as the connection to planetary health.
