As part of the Pedestrian Space ‘Global URBAN HEAT Media Lab’ and network in development, we are recording our conversations with incoming collaborators around the world, as well as students interested in pursuing academic internships related to the project.
As part of that, we met with Iqra Fatima, a third-year undergraduate student pursuing a B.A. (Hons.) in Geography with a Minor in Economics at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. As a Geography student, Iqra has a keen interest in urban planning, human geography, sustainable urbanism, and environmental sustainability. She reflected that the Pedestrian Space Urban Heat pilot particularly resonates with her academic interests, as it brings together urban systems, climate resilience, community engagement, and evidence-based research areas, which she is eager to explore further through practical experience.
She notes that, ‘Being a resident of New Delhi, a city that increasingly experiences the challenges of urban heat, I am especially interested in understanding and contributing to initiatives that promote more sustainable, resilient, and people-centered urban environments.’ In this recorded clip, she also reflects on intersecting issues of urban heat and climate change, migration, economic development, and quality of life.
