PLUS Change Ambassador Annika Lundkvist interviews fellow PLUS Change Ambassador Katalin Réthy
Katalin Réthy is an Agroecology professional, small-scale farmer, President of Magház Association, the Community Network for the Diversity of Agriculture and one of the founders of the Hungarian Agroecology Network Association.
For the PLUS Change project she is representing small-scale farmers, seed savers, agroecology activists/researchers.
In this talk we explore and hear about:
- Her work representing small-scale farmers, seed savers, and agroecology activists/researchers
- Their farm in Hungary, in the village of Páty
- How issues related to climate change are affecting different crops and how she approaches the changes with experimentation and adaptation in mind
- Their small market garden Szezon Kert
- Her expertise with legumes and how drought conditions are affecting traditions of legume cultivation
- Connecting agricultural activity with gastronomic activity and heritage, arts, community and culture
- The benefits of peri-urban locations for ‘urban agriculture’ activities
- The need to inspire and empower other community members to also grow food
- Unlearning much of what textbooks have taught as, with changing conditions, some of it is not applicable
- Viewing small-scale farms as little hubs of change
- Reframing what innovation is and can be
- Creating and adapting to new ways of being and living
