Below is a short film by University of Bristol MA in Film and TV student Yujie Ni, documenting gardening activities at Bristol-based Easton Community Garden.
This is Film 2 in her community gardening series and was produced during her Industrial Placement at Pedestrian Space between May and July 2024.
Earlier this year, in collaboration with the School of Arts at the University of Bristol, I agreed to offer placement places for students in the MA in Film and TV program there via Pedestrian Space.
I offered two different tracks for placement students to follow:
Track 1: Sustainable Mobility with a focus on Walkability
Track 2: Community & Urban Agriculture

Originally from China, Yujie NI is in the MA in Film & TV program & chose to pursue her Industrial Placement with Pedestrian Space and chose track 2.
She proceeded to begin her placement with investigating the landscape of community and organic agriculture in Bristol, began volunteering in gardens and also producing video content documenting the community gardening at Easton Community Garden.

What a pleasure it has been to see Yujie’s developments, media production and pure commitment to the topic of access to organic food (also a topic of her previous BA work in China) as well as becoming an active volunteer in community gardens of Bristol during her Industrial Placement!

Yujie also presented with me recently at a session for The Schumacher Institute on the topic of community agriculture. Watch and listen below!
