Challenges to Walkable Places

We are not just interested in success stories here at Pedestrian Space.

Yes, some of our favorite content to highlight are beautiful, functional pedestrian spaces and walkable cities placing the needs of people first.

But of course, many of these places had challenges to overcome as well, often needing to make what may have seemed like radical (yet ultimately common sense) changes for the walkability factors we see today.

Our website is a platform that we have committed as a space to discuss challenges to pedestrianization and car-free initiatives, to feature projects that face resistance and explore possible solutions.

As long as so many cities and regions across the globe are dominated by car-centric planning and behavior, this is essential dialogue.

Behavior change is also one of the key challenges we like to focus on and value that a key aspect of broader dialogue on sustainable mobility focuses on this.

We love connecting with communities, municipalities, advocacy groups and more who have achieved creation of car-free areas, are working on implementing walking plans in their cities and have great examples to share of pedestrian space  in their communities.

We also greatly value connecting with all those working to create all the same spaces and dealing with resistance & challenges- be it political, economic, lack of public support or other obstacle.

Feel free to connect and drop a line.
