Pedestrian Space began hosting academic interns in 2024 and looks forward to continuing to do so.
In 2027, we are launching our ‘Sustainable Urbanism & Planetary Health’ curriculum pilot collaborations for the issue of URBAN HEAT.
If you are a student starting to think about your 2027 academic internship and interested in issues of urban heat, please feel free to explore the mission of Pedestrian Space and contact us if you are interested in pursuing an Urban Heat-related internship.
We welcome students from diverse disciplines as we encourage the exploration and study of a range of issues of urban resilience via different disciplinary lens.
Pedestrian Space intern experiences are for very self-motivated students, as it is often a remote collaboration and the ‘deliverables’ for Pedestrian Space are often in the form of ‘field notes’ that we publish on our website, writing that allows students to reflect not only on the ‘product’ of their research but also the process.
In the past, some interns created various forms of media, including short videos, that we also credit them with and publish on Pedestrian Space channels. We offer the potential for students (typically who receive academic credit for such an internship) to create and lead their own project (sometimes also in collaboration with other local students). One of our past interns had her short film selected for a Climate Film event on sustainable travel. Another became an active local community garden volunteer through her internship project of short documentary filmmaking about urban community gardening.
The URBAN HEAT 2027 Pilot will include such creative and scholarly opportunities and encourage and welcome approaches from various disciplines. The vision, in development, is a global URBAN HEAT media lab and knowledge network for students to contribute and connect on their research, projects, and opportunities.
