Citizen Participation for Mission of Climate-Neutral Cities with Matthew Baldwin

Excerpt from our chat with Matthew Baldwin,  EU Coordinator for Road Safety and Sustainable Urban Mobility, this past January, in which he discusses the importance of citizen participation for the collective mission of climate-neutral cities.

“The individual citizen has to be ready to make the changes but also ready to appreciate the benefits – the co-benefits- that come in tackling these invisible gases around us, this existential challenge that we have to do.

The miracle is we get better air quality, reduced deaths and injuries from road crashes, we reduce the noise, we will get (I believe) reduced energy bills and better energy security.

These are the things we (the cities) need to discuss with citizens. It’s not a top-down process.” -Matthew Baldwin,
