We all choose the various labels and identifiers with which we move through the world and relate to our ideologies, beliefs, and ways of living.
You can be profoundly ‘x’ in behaviour while not relating at all to the label attached to it.
I have, for years, felt that to some degree with feminism. I knew I could move this world with my own practice and understanding of feminism without needing to immerse myself in the circles and spaces that identified as such (where, ironically, I experienced both discomfort and forms of discrimination).
I love experiencing and contributing to what I call ‘practical daily feminism,’ which doesn’t always come with a label.
An eco-feminist approach to urbanism that decenters a dominant anthropocentric attitude (and arrogance)and prioritizes environmental protections and justice as crucial not only for humanity but for planetary health, on which our existence depends.
I love developing networks (I’m in the midst of shaping one right now:
https://pedestrianspace.org/curriculum-pilot-2027-urban-heat/) that are welcoming, in general, to people of diverse backgrounds and also especially welcoming to women of different religions, nationalities, political ideologies and cultures. For me, this is also the ‘practice’ part of inclusion.
However, despite the experiences mentioned above, I have known for a while that I would probably find an excellent ‘home ’-intellectually and spiritually- in eco-feminist thought and spaces.
I feel that, not only in my heart, but also manifest in my work, in which urban resilience is researched, advocated for, and explored through lenses of equity- not only for humans but diverse other species as well. An eco-feminist approach to urbanism that decenters a dominant anthropocentric attitude (and arrogance) and prioritizes environmental protections and justice as crucial not only for humanity but for planetary health, on which our existence depends.

A good peer of mine who is a feminist + linguist scholar noted that “…listening to you talking about your research, I already mentally connected you to eco-feminism; basically, it is what you have already been doing.”
I really look forward to exploring and further unpacking eco-feminist thought and theory and also connecting the dots to ideas already manifest in my research, work, life, and practice.
