Conversational Mondays

Last Monday I led my 3rd Monday conversation ‘club’ (‚Chatty Mondays’) American Corner Radom.

8 adults were present as well as 3 kids! All generations are welcome to this relaxed, conversational Monday meeting! We also had several locals from Radom present as well as two people from Brazil! At previous ‘Chatty Mondays’ we have also had people from Ukraine and Turkey.

In these first few meetings, I’ve been centering topics of diaspora, migration and immigration, and heritage in the discussions. One of the conversation questions I posed this past Monday was, ‘If you were going to immigrate to the USA, which city or town would you go to?’

4 out of 8 adults present said NYC.

Also named were Texas, Las Vegas, Miami, Chicago, and Washington D.C.

Due to the overwhelming interest in NYC, I expressed my similar deep interest in ‘the city’ (also, my mama is from Harlem!) but then also proceeded to show them a video of other cities in NY state, to help shape awareness that there are other great places to visit and live in the State of New York.

Attending graduate school at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in the early 2000’s was a dynamic chapter in my life in which I also had my mind opened to the diversity of towns, cities, and landscapes of New York state.

We will also be digging into the culture and geography of New York City a bit more at future Monday conversation clubs, and of course, virtually exploring other US American cities.

If you are based in Radom, welcome to join us!
