‘Walkability: Through the Lens’ Featured

Very exciting to see Brinksway Cinema featuring ‘Walking: Through the Lens’ at their CLIMATE CUTS FILM EVENT: Sustainable Travel To Save The World?

Over the past year and a half, via Pedestrian Space, I have hosted several University of Bristol MA in Film and TV students for their Industrial Placements.

For students choosing to do an Industrial Placement with Pedestrian Space, I gave them two tracks to choose from: Walkability or Community / Urban Agriculture. Their task would be to produce a short documentary exploring how to, for example, depict aspects of walkability by film.

Wenjiao was one of the students who chose a placement with me and produced the short documentary ‘Walking: Through the Lens” during that placement. Really neat to see a local event organizers in Britain featuring her work at a climate + films event! 🌏 🎞️ -Annika

“Walking: Through the Lens is a short documentary produced and directed by Wenjiao Zhang, an MA student in the Film & TV program at the School of Arts at the University of Bristol.

The documentary was produced during her Industrial Placement at Pedestrian Space between May and July 2024 where they mentored her on the track of exploring and depicting issues of sustainable mobility via film.

“Many of the shots in this documentary were captured during my regular walks with a camera. There was no plan or purpose—just moments of beauty and interest that I came across while walking. This is also one of the joys of walking for me

The process of making this documentary made me reflect on my own spiritual life. It taught me the importance of being present and connecting with nature. Through these daily walking records, I discovered many details and beautiful moments that might otherwise be overlooked. Each walk became a journey of the soul, helping me find balance in a fast-paced life.” -Wenjiao Zhang
