City Walkability Rating: Warsaw, Wojciech Kacperski

Walkability City Rating with Wojciech Kacperski, Bureau of Architecture & Urban Planning, City of Warsaw

In this talk from February 2022, we asked Wojciech to rate the cycle friendliness, public transport and walkability of Warsaw. He discusses the decades of history and cultural influence on the car culture as we see it today in Poland and also discussed how the city is working to move away from being, like many cities, a car-centric city to being a more pedestrian-oriented city.

“The transition is not only in the infrastructure, it’s also a transition in the minds of people.”

-WOJCIECH ON THE TRANSITION AWAY FROM A CAR-CENTRIC CITY & CULTURE

Wojciech’s scores for the contemporary situation in Warsaw:

Cycle friendliness: 6

Our city rating chats and scores are meant to be conversational in nature, inspiring reflection and dialogue on our experiences moving around the city via these modes.
