Ordinary cities’ is one of (a few) research ideas I have ‘simmering in the background’ for the near future.
And like other urban research topics I approach, it’s not only a cerebral interest but connected to lived experience as well.
Our move to the city of Radom really triggered my action to begin more seriously thinking about this topic and jotting down my thoughts and observations, with plans to dive into this topic soon.
I know there is existing literature on the topic of ‘ordinary cities’, which I plan to dive into, but I’m also eager to tease out my own understanding of what defines ‘ordinariness’ of ‘ordinary cities’, why they’re important and attractive for many residents and should not be overlooked in urban planning studies, research, practice and discourse.
The links embedded here in this post include some of those observational notes I’ve been writing this year.
