15-minute city talk on Jyväskylä with Ari-Pekka Liukkonen, 3x Olympian Swimmer

Great way to kick off the week! Thank you, Ari-Pekka Liukkonen, for a lovely talk on how you experience the 15-minute city concept as a living reality in your home city of Jyväskylä.

3x Olympian swimmer Ari-Pekka Liukkonen and I met for the first time at the EYL40 European Young Leaders Seminar ‘Extremities’ in Paris last month where I was giving a talk on the 15-minute city concept.

One of the best parts of such seminars and conferences (in addition to many insightful presentations & talks) are the social moments ‘in-between’.

In such a moment, Ari-Pekka shared with me that this concept is exactly what he experiences in his city, with all needs within a 1-2 km distance and living mostly by commuting on bicycle.

As much of my research, as well as media advocacy, is about ‘residential narrative,’ I thought it would be great to have a live and recorded chat to hear more about his local lifestyle.

Listen to the video above at the Pedestrian Space YouTube channel to hear how Ari-Pekka experiences a 15-minute city lifestyle in his city of residence in Finland, ideas for further improvements and the effect of this lifestyle on his quality of life.

Do you have insight to share for a brief, recorded coffee chat on the 15-minute city concept? Feel free to DM or write to info@pedestrianspace.org

Thank you Ari-Pekka and look forward to hopefully taking another walk together one day!
