SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities

SDG 11 connects to the heart of Pedestrian Space with its mission statement: “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable

Sustainable Development Goal 11 is about “sustainable cities and communities” & is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.

Pedestrian Space is focused on issues of walkability & pedestrianization as a key factor in sustainable urban development.

Our interests & project foci (as covered & explored at pedestrianspace.org) span a broad range of themes that connect to these issues including:

•Emissions reductions through increased pedestrianization in cities

•Walkability & access to amenities as a civic right

•Inclusivity in urban design, planning & traffic planning of pedestrian & soft mobility paths & networks

•Importance of walkability for mental health & this benefit as critical for community

•Walkability, pedestrianized zones & local economy

We cover these & more themes through research, literature reviews, interviews & media coverage – also welcoming contributions on these themes from others here at Pedestrian Space.
