Environment and sustainability goals have been at the heart of many urban car-free initiatives in recent decades and there are a rich set of examples to incorporate as case studies. Climate change concerns have, in recent years, also dramatically influenced planning and developments in urban mobility.
Issues of resources, environmental heritage and conservation, biodiversity protection, emissions reductions and related issues, through the lens of traffic reduction and pedestrianization initiatives, form our focus here along with walkability and mobility issues in urban planning as relates to car- free initiatives, green planning and sustainability goals.
